Project management and coordination

Task 1.1 · Work package 1 — Project Management and Coordination

Project Management and Coordination constitutes the operational core of NewLIFE4BioIslands, ensuring that all project activities are implemented smoothly, coherently, and in full compliance with European Union standards throughout the project’s 72-month duration.

Led by GESPLAN, as the coordinating entity, this task is responsible for harmonising the work of the eight international partners across Spain, Italy, and Greece. The management structure is built upon three fundamental pillars to ensure transparency and efficiency:

  • Project Management Team (PMT): Composed of specialised GESPLAN staff (Project Director, Financial Manager, and Project Manager), responsible for day-to-day technical supervision, expenditure control, and compliance with legal and contractual obligations.
  • Steering Committee: The project’s main decision-making body, bringing together representatives from all partner organisations to monitor progress, evaluate results, and approve strategic adjustments through consensus.
  • Advisory Board: A multidisciplinary group of external experts and supporting institutions that provides scientific, technical, and institutional guidance to maximise the impact of the restoration actions.

The key functions of this task include rigorous monitoring of impact indicators, continuous communication with the European Commission’s monitoring team, efficient financial management, and the promotion of networking and collaboration with other European initiatives to facilitate the exchange of best practices in biodiversity restoration.

A BioBlitz is an intensive biodiversity survey where volunteers work together to identify and record as many insect species as possible within a defined area, assisted by a local entomologist. Leave us your details and we will let you know about upcoming events.
