Evaluation and reporting of LIFE KPIs

Task 4.4 · Work package 4 — Monitoring and Evaluation

Measuring the environmental and socio-economic impact of NewLIFE4BioIslands is essential to evaluate project performance and demonstrate its contribution to the objectives of the LIFE Programme. This task establishes a standardised monitoring and reporting framework based on the official LIFE Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), enabling results to be assessed consistently and compared with other European restoration initiatives.

The main actions include:

  • LIFE KPI reporting: Collection, verification, and submission of project indicators through the official LIFE reporting system, covering both environmental and socio-economic performance.
  • Biodiversity indicators: Assessment of restored habitat area, recovery of priority species, and changes in pollinator diversity and ecosystem condition.
  • Climate and soil indicators: Evaluation of ecosystem resilience to climate change, carbon sequestration, soil quality, and improvements in organic matter.
  • Socio-economic indicators: Monitoring of employment creation, stakeholder engagement, and the wider social benefits generated by restoration activities.
  • Long-term impact assessment: Preparation of mandatory KPI reports during the project and support for post-project evaluation under the After-LIFE framework.

Coordinated by GESPLAN with contributions from all relevant project partners, this task will provide robust evidence of the project’s ecological, climate, and socio-economic impact, supporting accountability, adaptive management, and the replication of the biodiversity island restoration model.

Join our BioBlitz events

A BioBlitz is an intensive biodiversity survey where volunteers work together to identify and record as many insect species as possible within a defined area, assisted by a local entomologist. Leave us your details and we will let you know about upcoming events.
