Project impact monitoring

Task 4.3 · Work package 4 — Monitoring and Evaluation

Assessing the overall impact of NewLIFE4BioIslands is essential to evaluate the effectiveness of restoration actions and support adaptive project management. This task will integrate environmental, social, and economic indicators to measure project performance across all intervention areas and provide the evidence needed to guide decision-making throughout the implementation period.

The main actions include:

  • Restoration and biodiversity impact: Evaluation of habitat restoration progress, establishment of biodiversity islands, recovery of native vegetation, and improvements in pollinator communities and ecosystem functioning.
  • Climate resilience and restoration infrastructure: Assessment of the performance of water management solutions, erosion control measures, and other restoration infrastructures designed to improve ecosystem resilience under climate change.
  • Socio-economic impact: Monitoring of employment creation, local economic benefits, and stakeholder participation generated by restoration activities.
  • Benefits for sustainable land management: Evaluation of restoration outcomes in areas where ecological restoration is integrated with grazing and other traditional land-use practices.
  • Public awareness and behavioural change: Assessment of changes in knowledge, attitudes, and engagement among local communities and stakeholders through outreach and participation activities.

The task will produce periodic impact assessment reports, providing a comprehensive evaluation of project outcomes and supporting adaptive management, accountability, and the long-term sustainability of restoration actions.

Join our BioBlitz events

A BioBlitz is an intensive biodiversity survey where volunteers work together to identify and record as many insect species as possible within a defined area, assisted by a local entomologist. Leave us your details and we will let you know about upcoming events.
