Building strong collaboration with local communities and stakeholders is essential to ensure the long-term success and social acceptance of the restoration actions planned under NewLIFE4BioIslands. This preparatory task focuses on establishing participatory networks and raising awareness before the implementation of field interventions.
The work will promote cooperation with landowners, farmers, livestock managers, local authorities, civil society organisations, and educational institutions, encouraging their active involvement in restoration planning and sustainable land management. Participatory working groups and local advisory networks will support dialogue, knowledge exchange, and the adoption of practices that are compatible with biodiversity conservation and pollinator recovery.
The task will also lay the foundations for citizen science initiatives and community participation in biodiversity monitoring through digital platforms and local engagement activities. By strengthening stakeholder involvement from the outset, this action will help create long-term stewardship, improve restoration outcomes, and support the wider dissemination of the project’s biodiversity conservation objectives.
Citizen science
A BioBlitz is an intensive biodiversity survey where volunteers work together to identify and record as many insect species as possible within a defined area, assisted by a local entomologist. Leave us your details and we will let you know about upcoming events.
