Protocols and plans for restoration

Task 2.3 · Work package 2 — Preparatory Actions

This preparatory task converts the scientific evidence gathered during the baseline assessment phase into practical restoration protocols and site-specific implementation plans for all NewLIFE4BioIslands intervention areas. It provides the technical foundation needed to ensure that restoration actions are scientifically sound, locally adapted, and effectively coordinated across the project regions.

Comprehensive biodiversity island landscape restoration plans will be developed for each intervention area, defining the location and design of restoration sites, ecological connectivity measures, and the infrastructure required to support restoration activities. The task will also establish technical protocols for seed collection, native plant production, soil improvement, and biodiversity monitoring, ensuring the use of appropriate local genetic material and consistent restoration standards.

By integrating ecological design criteria with operational planning, this work will guide the implementation of restoration actions under a common scientific framework while allowing regional partners to adapt interventions to local environmental conditions. It will also support the long-term sustainability and replicability of the biodiversity island restoration model across Mediterranean island and mountain ecosystems.

Join our BioBlitz events

A BioBlitz is an intensive biodiversity survey where volunteers work together to identify and record as many insect species as possible within a defined area, assisted by a local entomologist. Leave us your details and we will let you know about upcoming events.
